Schema Markup for Med Spas: MedicalBusiness, FAQ & More

Schema markup is code that helps search engines understand what your content means, not just what it says. For a med spa, it can clarify that you are a medical business, which treatments you offer, where you are located, what patients ask most and how your pages fit together. It does not guarantee higher rankings, but it can improve how your pages appear in results and how well search engines and AI tools understand your clinic.

What is schema markup?

Schema markup is a shared vocabulary, maintained at schema.org, that websites use to label information. It is usually added as a small block of JSON-LD code in the page. For example, instead of Google guessing that “123 Main Street” is your address, schema tells it directly: this is a medical business, this is its address, these are its opening hours.

Google uses this information to display rich results, such as FAQ dropdowns, breadcrumbs and business details, and to connect your website with your Google Business Profile and other mentions of your brand across the web.

LocalBusiness and MedicalBusiness markup

Your clinic markup is the foundation. Include your exact business name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, geo coordinates, price range, logo and links to your official profiles on social media and review sites using the sameAs property. Keep the details identical to your Google Business Profile.

Multi-location clinics should add separate markup on each location page, with that location’s own address, phone and hours. Avoid putting every location’s address on every page.

FAQ schema for treatment pages

Most treatment pages benefit from an FAQ section answering questions about cost, pain, downtime and results. Marking up those questions with FAQPage schema helps search engines understand them. Google currently shows FAQ rich results mainly for authoritative government and health sites, so do not expect dropdowns for every page, but the structured questions still help search engines and AI tools understand your content.

Only mark up questions and answers that are visible on the page. Hidden or invented FAQs break Google’s guidelines.

Provider and author markup

Experience and credentials matter for health-related content. Use Person schema on provider bio pages, including name, job title, qualifications, affiliations and links to professional profiles. On blog posts, connect the article to its author or medical reviewer. This supports the experience and trust signals Google looks for in medical content.

Review markup: be careful

Review and rating markup has strict rules. Google does not allow businesses to mark up reviews about themselves on their own site for star-rating rich results in most cases. Never invent reviews, copy reviews you do not have permission to use, or mark up ratings that do not appear on the page. Focus instead on earning genuine reviews on your Google Business Profile.

How to add schema to your website

  • SEO plugins: tools like Rank Math or Yoast add basic Organization, Article and breadcrumb markup automatically.
  • Custom JSON-LD: for MedicalBusiness, Service and FAQ markup, add JSON-LD blocks to the relevant pages.
  • Tag managers: possible, but markup placed directly in the page is more reliable.

Testing your schema

After adding markup, test each page with Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator. Fix errors first, then warnings that matter. Check Google Search Console’s enhancement reports regularly, because changes to your site or plugins can break markup without you noticing.

Common schema mistakes

  • Using a generic LocalBusiness type when a more specific type fits better
  • Marking up content that is not visible to visitors
  • Different business details in schema and on your Google profile
  • Duplicate markup from several plugins on the same page
  • Fake or self-serving review markup

Schema and AI search

AI assistants and Google AI Overviews rely on clear, consistent information about businesses. Schema markup is one of the ways you make your clinic easy to understand: who you are, where you are, what you offer and who your providers are. Combined with consistent listings and helpful content, it supports your visibility in AI answers. Learn more in our guide to getting recommended by ChatGPT and AI Overviews.

A simple MedicalBusiness example

At minimum, your clinic markup should include your business type, name, URL, logo, phone, full address, geo coordinates, opening hours and links to official profiles. Most SEO plugins let you fill these details in a settings screen, and developers can add the JSON-LD directly to your homepage and location pages. Whichever method you use, keep the information identical to your Google Business Profile and update it whenever your hours, phone or address change.
