Google Business Profile for Med Spas: Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Your Google Business Profile is often the first impression a new patient has of your med spa. It appears in Google Maps and the local pack, shows your reviews and photos, and lets people call, get directions or book without ever visiting your website. Setting it up properly is one of the highest-return marketing tasks any clinic can do.
This step-by-step guide walks through creating, verifying and optimizing a Google Business Profile specifically for a medical spa.
Step 1: Claim or create your profile
Search for your clinic name on Google Maps first. If a profile already exists, perhaps created automatically or by a previous owner, claim it rather than creating a new one. Duplicate profiles confuse Google and split your reviews. If no profile exists, create one at business.google.com using the exact name you use on your signage and website.
Use an email address owned by the business, not a personal or agency email, so you always keep control. You can add your team and your marketing partners as managers later.
Step 2: Verify your clinic
Google requires verification before your profile appears fully in search. Depending on your business, verification may be by video recording, phone, email or postcard. Video verification usually asks you to show your signage, your entrance, your treatment rooms and proof that you manage the business. Prepare before you start: have signage visible, business documents ready and the space tidy.
Do not edit key details such as your name, address or category while verification is pending, as that can restart the process.
Step 3: Choose the right categories
Your primary category is one of the strongest ranking signals. For most clinics, “Medical spa” is the right primary category. Add secondary categories only for services you truly provide, such as “Skin care clinic”, “Laser hair removal service”, “Facial spa” or “Weight loss service”. We cover this in detail in our guide to the best Google Business Profile categories for med spas.
Step 4: Add your business details
- Name: your real business name only, with no added keywords or locations
- Address: exactly as it appears on your website and listings
- Phone: a local number, ideally a tracking number with your main number listed as additional
- Website: link to your homepage or location page, with tracking parameters if you use them
- Hours: regular hours plus special hours for holidays
- Booking link: your online scheduler so patients can book directly
Step 5: Write a strong business description
You have up to 750 characters to describe your clinic. Lead with who you are and where you are, mention your main treatments and what makes you different, such as medical oversight, experienced injectors or specific technology. Write for patients, not for search engines. Avoid links, promotions and all-caps.
Step 6: Add every treatment as a service
Services help Google connect your profile to treatment searches and help patients see what you offer. Add each treatment separately, Botox, Dysport, lip filler, cheek filler, laser hair removal, Hydrafacial, microneedling and so on, with a short, clear description. Where appropriate, add “starting at” prices.
Step 7: Upload high-quality photos and videos
Profiles with fresh, real photos tend to get more engagement. Upload your logo and a cover photo, then add photos of the exterior so patients can find you, reception, treatment rooms, your team and your equipment. Add short videos introducing your clinic or providers. Upload new photos every month to keep your profile active.
Be careful with before-and-after photos. Only share images with written patient consent, avoid misleading edits, and follow your state’s advertising rules.
Step 8: Set up messaging, Q&A and posts
Seed the Questions and Answers section with common questions, such as parking, consultation fees and payment plans, and answer them from your business account. Publish Google posts weekly: new treatments, seasonal offers, events and short educational tips. Posts keep your profile looking active and give patients more reasons to choose you.
Step 9: Build a review system
Reviews are one of the biggest factors in local rankings and in which clinic patients choose. Use your profile’s review link in an automated text or email sent a few hours after each appointment. Ask every patient, never offer incentives and never filter who you ask. Reply to every review within a few days, without confirming that the reviewer is a patient or mentioning treatment details. See how to get more Google reviews.
Step 10: Track performance
Your profile shows how many people viewed it, searched for you, called, requested directions and clicked to your website. Review these numbers monthly. Use a call tracking number and tagged website links to connect profile activity to bookings in your analytics.
Avoiding suspensions
Profiles can be suspended for breaking Google’s guidelines. The most common causes for med spas are keyword-stuffed business names, virtual offices or shared addresses that do not meet the rules, duplicate listings, and frequent changes to core details. If you are in a salon suite or shared building, make sure you meet Google’s requirements before creating a profile. If you are suspended, fix the issue first, then request reinstatement with clear evidence.
