How to Rank Your Med Spa on Google Maps (Step-by-Step)
If you run a med spa, the Google map pack, the three clinics shown on a map at the top of local results, is probably the most valuable real estate in your marketing. When someone searches “Botox near me” or “med spa near me”, most of them call, click or ask for directions from one of those three listings.
This guide explains how Google decides who appears there and the exact steps to move your clinic up, in the order we use with our own clients.
How Google ranks local results
Google says local rankings are based mainly on three factors:
- Relevance, how well your profile and website match what the person searched.
- Distance, how far your clinic is from the searcher or the location they searched.
- Prominence, how well-known and trusted your business is, based on reviews, links, articles and directory listings.
You cannot change where your clinic is. But most med spas have plenty of room to improve relevance and prominence, and that is where rankings are won.
Step 1: Optimize your Google Business Profile
Choose the right primary category
Your primary category is one of the strongest local ranking signals. For most clinics, “Medical spa” is the right choice. Add secondary categories only for services you truly provide, such as “Skin care clinic”, “Laser hair removal service”, “Facial spa” or “Weight loss service”. Check which categories the top clinics in your area use for ideas.
Add every treatment as a service
List Botox, lip filler, laser hair removal, Hydrafacial, microneedling and every other treatment as individual services with short, plain-English descriptions. This helps Google connect your profile to treatment searches.
Complete every field
- Accurate business name, no extra keywords (that can get you suspended)
- Exact address, phone number and website URL
- Opening hours, including holiday hours
- Business description that mentions your main treatments and area
- Booking link to your online scheduler
- Attributes such as “women-led” or accessibility options where applicable
Add photos and posts regularly
Upload new photos every month: your team, treatment rooms, devices, reception and the building exterior so patients can find you. Publish a Google post weekly, a new treatment, a seasonal offer, an event or an educational tip. Active profiles tend to perform better and convert more viewers.
Seed the Q&A
Answer common questions, parking, consultation fees, pricing, payment plans, so patients get answers without leaving Google.
Step 2: Strengthen your website’s local signals
Your Google Business Profile links to your website, and Google looks at that site to understand your relevance. Make sure it has:
- Your name, address and phone number in the footer of every page, matching your profile exactly
- A dedicated page for each core treatment, mentioning your city naturally
- A location page (one per clinic for multi-location groups) with a map, directions, parking and nearby landmarks
- LocalBusiness or MedicalBusiness schema markup
- Fast load times on mobile
Step 3: Fix your citations
Citations are mentions of your business name, address and phone number on other sites: Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook, healthcare and beauty directories, and device-manufacturer provider locators. Inconsistent or outdated citations confuse Google. Audit the main ones, fix any old addresses or phone numbers, and remove duplicate listings.
Step 4: Build reviews the right way
Review count, rating, recency and the words in your reviews all affect local rankings. The simplest system that works:
- Send an automated SMS or email a few hours after each appointment.
- Make the review link one tap away.
- Ask every patient, do not filter out unhappy ones (Google prohibits “review gating”).
- Never offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews.
- Reply to every review within a few days, without confirming the reviewer is a patient.
Reviews that naturally mention treatments (“my lip filler looks so natural”) help you rank for those treatments, so it is fine to ask patients to mention what they had done, as long as you do not script the review.
Step 5: Earn local links
Links from local websites boost prominence. Good sources for med spas include local news features, sponsoring a charity event or school fundraiser, chamber of commerce membership, partnerships with salons, gyms or bridal shops, and your device manufacturers’ provider locators.
Step 6: Track your map rankings properly
Map rankings change block by block. Checking from your own office shows you a flattering picture. Use a geo-grid tracking tool that checks your position across a grid of points around your clinic, for each important keyword. Then track the actions that matter: calls, website clicks, direction requests and bookings from your profile.
Mistakes that hold med spas back in Google Maps
- Adding keywords to your business name (“Glow Med Spa, Best Botox Miami”)
- Using a virtual office or shared address that does not meet Google guidelines
- Choosing “Day spa” or “Beauty salon” as your primary category when you are a medical spa
- Leaving reviews unanswered for months
- Creating duplicate profiles for each provider or treatment
- Changing your name, address or category repeatedly

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to rank a med spa on Google Maps?
Fixes to your profile can show results within weeks; consistent top-3 rankings for competitive treatments usually take 3 to 6 months of steady work on reviews, content and links.
Why does my med spa not show up on Google Maps?
Common reasons include the wrong primary category, an unverified or suspended profile, inconsistent business information, too few reviews or being too far from the searcher.
Does posting on Google Business Profile help rankings?
Posts keep your profile active and give patients more reasons to choose you. Their direct ranking effect is modest, but they often improve engagement and conversions.
Can I rank in a city where I do not have a location?
Map-pack rankings depend heavily on distance, so it is difficult. You can still rank in organic results with helpful content for nearby areas.
